WALKER AREA EVENTS

Moondance Jam
Moondance Jam is a classic rock festival held
annually on the Moondance Events grounds in the
Leech Lake/Chippewa National Forest Area near
Walker, Minnesota. Moondance Jam is Minnesota's
largest rock festival and is recognized as the
premier classic rock festival in the United
States with four days of national classic rock
bands highlighted on the main stage and two
additional regional band stages. The event
features a large outdoor concert area with open
festival seating, 300 acres of groomed camping,
well kept facilities, a variety of food and
vendor stands, an air conditioned bar and grill
with a backstage view and an acoustic stage, an
indoor regional stage and seating area with a
full bar, a shaded VIP area with access to stage
box viewing, excellent security and EMS crews,
an organized staff and more. The clean, safe and
friendly atmosphere is a big reason why
Moondance Jam has gone from being a party for a
few thousand in 1992 to a
rock 'n 'roll and
camping celebration that entertains tens of
thousands of Jammers from all over the Midwest,
the U.S. and the world.
Eelpout Festival
The International Eelpout Festival has been
tempting masses of pouters and tournament
patriots to Leech Lake for over 25 years.
Heralded as Minnesota's finest display of
sportsmanship and ice antics, the Eelpout
Festival is an experience not to be missed.
The activities during the Eelpout Festival are
plentiful. The celebration begins with the
Opening Ceremony at high noon in the Walker City
Park on Friday. The rest of the
day is spent out on the lake fishing for the
perfect Eelpout. Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30
p.m. registration is open for the Eelpout
Peelout - 5k run that starts at 10:00 a.m. at
the Walker High School.
You won't want to miss out on the Best Eelpout
Encampment judging at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday as
well. See the creativity these Eel pouters put
to use when creating their custom-made fish
houses. Ice races will also occur on Garfield
Lake in Laporte, MN, only about 15 minutes
northwest of Walker.
The POLAR PLUNGE will definitely be a highlight
for all on Leech Lake. The
Polar Plunge has been able to produce a great
contribution to the Walker Area Community
Center. All proceeds from this thrilling event
benefit the Walker Area Community Center and its
building efforts.
Fourth of July
The Fourth of July celebration in Walker invokes
feeling of nostalgia and patriotism from the
midday parade to the late evening fireworks. The
day begins with a "Kiddie Parade" allowing the
children to demonstrate their achievements and
excitement as they show their Scout uniforms,
twirl their batons, or proudly display another
skill.
The Grand Marshall leads the rest of the parade
through Main Street. It wouldn't be a Fourth of
July parade though without the Veteran's floats,
clowns, jugglers, homemade floats, antique cars,
horses, fire trucks, and ambulances.
Festivities are continued throughout the day and
into the evening in the Walker City Park. A Fish
Fry, games, food, and local bands can all be
found their leading up to the magnificent
fireworks display. The fireworks are shot off
over Leech Lake, which is filled with boats
viewing the show.
You won't want to miss Fourth of July in Walker,
Minnesota. Along with all of these activities,
the town's shops and restaurants are all still
open for business inviting people in to discover
the treasures and delights that await them.
Ethnic Fest
Ethnic Entertainment, Ethnic Food, Crafts, Pub
Crawl. Celebration of Cultural Diversity which
is the American Tapestry, A parade with
participants from near and far is the perfect
way to begin the day. Streets come alive with
music & dance. The air is filled with the aroma
of many ethnic cuisines for your enjoyment.
YIKES! BIKES! Tour
Enjoy a beautiful July morning biking among our
plush forests while taking part in a valued
charitable event for Habitat for Humanity. Join
in on the YIKES! BIKES! Bike Tour that takes
place on our acclaimed bike trails. In 2007,
over 300 bikers participated for the event.
Habitat for Humanity is hoping for over 350
bikers for 2008. Come to the Walker area and
participate in this wonderful opportunity to
take in the scenery and help the Habitat for
Humanity in their fundraising efforts. |
